III.b. John Nans, D.D. L.L.D., rector of Glasney College in Cornwall
1497-1501. Rector of Camborne, Redruth and Illogan churches 1501-1508. Canon
resident of Exter 1509. Said to be uncle of Sir
Alexander Nance. We have no records to verify this, therefore, this
man should be considered a probable son of Robert Nans
of Nans in St. Martin Parish. Although I didn't know someone who must
have been a clergyman could also have children before the reformation, the
"Genealogy of the Nances in Cornwall" by Martin L. "Pete"
Nance, nevertheless seems to indicate that the following is his son:
IV. Thomas Nans, tax rolls of Lelant Parish 1523, "no known son"
according to "Genealogy of the Nances in Cornwall" by Martin L.
"Pete" Nance, which nevertheless seems to indicate (maybe "no"
was a misprint for "one") that he did in fact have one son:
V. Symon Nans, tax rolls of Lelant Parish 1546, one known son:
VI. John Nance, gentleman, born Lelant 1544, made will 1613, died
at St. Ives 1614. Wife Johan. Six children:
VII.b. Richard Nance, land owner St. Ives 1629, the father of two daughters,
died St. Ives 1669. (I once believed this was possibly our ancestor, but
after three years, I now find I was very much in error.)
VII.c. Henry Nance, said to have gone to sea (?). A 1626 marriage
at London, shows Henry Nance, sailor, married Isabel Lee, widow. Doubtless
the same.
VII.d. Anne, married Thomas Purefoy, merchant St. Ives.
VII.e. Grace, married Ellis, widow in 1613.
VII.f. Elizabeth, married Clarke.
VII.a. William Nance in 1645 civil war, churchwarden of St. Ives
1650, died 1667. Two daughters and one known son:
VIII. John Nance married 1667 Elizabeth Stevens, parents of eight children:
IX. John Nance born 1668,
IX. Thomas Nance born 1671,
IX. William Nance
IX. Mary Nance
IX. Joseph Nance
IX. Edward Nance
IX. Elizabeth Nance
IX. Alian Nance born 1673. Alian had three sons:
X. John (a friend of John Wesley),
X. William, and
X. Thomas. The descendants of these three sons live in St. Ives and
New Zealand.
