Children of Agnes Denton and James B. Crouch

A Crouch Family Heritage Association Family Tree page

James B. Crouch b ca1758, '63 or '68, VA; m Agnes "Aggy" Denton. James Crouch s/o John & Sarah (Barbary) Crouch. Agnes Denton d Jul 1836, Clinton Co KY; d/o Isaac & Ann (Whitson) Denton. However, Other sites and books list his wife as Martha Evans. [For more info contact his descendant Charlie Crouch, Charlie@askpri.org.] (Note: Some sources say James was born ca 1758, some say ca 1763, and most say ca 1768. Also, not all sources have the middle initial, and his brothers and sisters, father, cousins and uncles are not recorded as having middle initials. So it's possible we may have conflated two different people. A possible explanation for the B is that a genealogist may have referred to him at some point as "James (Barbary) Crouch" because that was the genealogist's system, not because that was his name.)

James B. & Agnes Crouch had 5 sons & 5 daughters:

1. Sarah "Sally" Crouch b ca1792, m ca1808, John Wood.

John, I had a sheet on Martin Crouch (son of James) who married Olive. I don't remember noticing it before, but they named a son Pleasant, born 1848. I have a note on them that I got the above information from HISTORY OF FENTRESS CO., TN. Another note states that there is a woman b. in 1776 living in their household (Elijah's) named Mary Crouch. I don't know who she is. This was the census of 1850

Ms. Hintze noted that becasue of the unusual names, there was probably a connection with her ancestors, described below:

I am descended from Pleasant Crouch through his son Martin, and HIS son Jacob Clinton Columbus Crouch. Looking for cousins. Pleasant M. Crouch was from TN, born 1817; he died 1868 in Sebastian, AR, and buried in a cemetery south of Hartford, Sebastian, AR. Martin E. Crouch was b. in Gasconade, MO 22 Sep 1845 and d. 25 Mar 1918 at Crown, Atascosa Co., TX; he was buried in the Crouch section of the Jourdanton City Cemetery. I've seen his and his wife's graves. My grandmother is buried there with them. -- Leana Jane Gates Crouch. I'd like to hear from you. Billie Hintze
