The persons appearing in these records are John
Crouch who was granted land in Stafford County in 1709, his son William
Crouch, and his son Jacob. Sarah Crouch also appears. There was a Sarah
Crouch in the area who was the wife of John Crouch Sr., the son of Joseph
Crouch. Joseph Crouch is thought to be William's brother.

to Benjamin Grayson of same, 200 acres in Hamilton Parish, the same land
granted to his father JOHN CROUCH by patent 24 Feb 1709 from the Proprietors
of the Northern Neck of Va. Wits: John Baxter, Jeremiah Bronaugh, John Bronaugh.
JANE CROUCH wife of WILLIAM CROUCH relinquished dower right. Ack. &

THIS INDENTURE made this twenty fifth and twenty sixth day of July in the
year of our Lord 1740 Between WILLIAM CROUCH of the Parrish of Hamelton
and County of Prince William of one part and BENJAMIN GRAYSON of the Parrish
& County aforesaid of other part Wittnesseth that said WILLIAM CROUCH
for sum of forty pounds Ten shills. Currt. money of Virginia hath sold unto
said BENJA. GRAYSON in his actual possession now being by virtue of a Bargain
& Sale to him made and by fource of the Statute for transferring uses
into possession and to his heirs for ever all that parcel of land containing
two hundred acres in the Parrish of Hamelton & County of Prince William
being by PATENT granted to JOHN CROUCH Father to the aforesaid WILLIAM by
PATTENT frp, tje PROPRIETORS OFFICE dated the 24th day of February 1709
and bounded between the Branches of a Creek called LITTLE CREEK which is
a Branch of NEABSCO & the Branches of MURUMPSCO Beginning at
a marked Red oak standing in the line of RICHARD NEVITT and extends thence
North West to a Red oak on a Ridge then North East to a white oak standing
by a Branch or Glade of MURUMPSCO CREEK thence South East to a marked Pine
corner Tree to the said NEVITT then along the said NEVITTs line of marked
trees to the first beginning red oak. In Witness whereof said WILLIAM CROUCH
hath set his hand and Seal in presence of JOHN BAXTER, WM. (his mark) CROUCH
JEREMIAH BRONAUGH, JOHN BRONAUGH
At a Court held for Prince William County July the 28th 1740 WILLIAM CROUCH
Planter acknowledged this Lease / Release together with the Receit to be
his acts & deeds and they were thereupon admitted to Record Then JANE
his Wife (she being first privately Examined) relinquished her
right of Dower in the land by this Deed conveyed which was also admitted
to record.

1760, 24 Nov - WILLIAM CROUCH made his petition to the Co. Ct. & was
excused from paying county & public levys for the future. (This action
was quite common for elderly men, disabled soldiers of the French &
Indian War, etc.) (In Va. Genealogist 21:4 (1977):304)
