Crouch cemetery lists, Washington Co., Tn.

A Crouch Family Heritage Association Family Tree page

(excerpt from a letter from Richard Crouch to Glenn Crouch of Omaha. By the way, this does not include one of the most important Crouch cemeteries, at the Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church near Gray. There is also the overgrown Galloway family plot off Carroll Creek Road. See also Nance's Shop Cemetery)

The recent work by the Sheriff's Department in Washington County, Tennessee has resulted in a complete cleanup of the old Baptist Cemetery in Fall Branch, and that has made all the stones accessible, none of which could even be seen before. The cemetery is now in excellent shape, though the inscriptions on the stones are in many cases partially worn away.

This is a listing of the tombstones of Crouch family members in the Fall Branch Cemetery. I am giving only the first name in each case, as the last name is the same as ours.

1. Jesse, died December 22, 1841, age 81 years. (Given the dates this can hardly be anyone other than my thrice-great grandfather, who filed his Revolutionary War pension application No. R2531 in Washington County, Tennessee, stating that he was born in Stafford County, Virginia, on April 25, 1760.

2. (Next to Jesse, with identical stone), Mary, died January ___, 1842, age 71 years, 8 months and 20 days.

3. Gilbert, died January 7, 1839, age 12 (years or days?).

4. Jessie [sic.] H., born October ___, 1828.

5. Mary, daughter of Jesse [sic.] H. and Jemimah, born March 17, 18___, died age 8 years, 10 days.

... it occurred to me that I have not given you one of the most important ones which is accessible to me. That is the Crouch family cemetery on the Ralph Crouch farm in Boone's Creek, Tennessee. Most of the stones are unreadable now, but I will list for you the ones that are readable, or which we took rubbings of back when they were legible.

1. Dollie, daughter of J. B. and Sue M. Hale, November 9, 1882-October 30, 1884.
