James Crouch is said to be the son of Jesse Crouch and Mary Sarah Nance, but is probably the son of of Jesse's brother John Crouch Jr. and Susanna Williams. Jesse is also said to have had a son James who died young.

James Crouch b. ca 1800 m 26 May 1825, Washington Co TN, Susannah Bowman. Also said to have married a Jane Hickman, but Jesse's son Allen Crouch married a Jane Hickman, and that claim probably arises from confusing James with Allen Crouch or calling Allen "James Allen Crouch".
