Irish-Canadian Mullins Family & William Henry Mullins

A Crouch Family Heritage Association Family Tree page

Letter from Karen Mullins

My name is Karen Mullins and I live in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada.
While trying to find an INet address for one of my cousins in eastern
Canada, I discovered your website. I was particularly interested when I saw
the name of William Henry Mullins as that is also a common name of
patriarchs in my family tree. Fair enough to say that the potato famine in
Ireland must have brought many of our common forefathers from the isle in
the mid- 1800s, but I thought it might be worth asking you if you have
already linked with any of the Mullins clan in Canada ? If not, let me know
and I'll put you in touch with my cousin, Doug, who has all of our family
history on PC. In the meantime, below are a few names and dates which may
help you to determine if there is commonality in our respective family backgrounds:

John Mullins, b. c1748, had 3 children, Ann, Martha, & George. To date,
this is the beginning of our family tree which is verifiable (birth
certificates, graves, church records, etc.), but every year a little bit
more is tracked down, allowing the date to be pushed back. Some common
surnames from subsequent marriages around that time are: Peacock, Stanley,
Gordon, and Elliott.

Our branch of the Mullinses came west from Ontario in the early 1920s and
have all pretty much remained on the west coast of Canada since. The
exception is my cousin, Doug, living in Montreal which puts him in close
proximity to tracking down our genealogical information from the larger
portion of the clan in Ontario. When I was a youngster, the only Mullinses in
our local phone books were all my relatives. Now, I only know about half of
the names I see in the Vancouver phone book and I know they aren't my
cousins !
